"Slumdog Millionaire" director helping his young stars

For weeks, I've thrown up posts off and on about how the stars of Slumdog Millionaire, mainly the youngsters Rubina Ali and Azhar Ismail, haven't been getting the support that producers of the movie promised to give them. Finally, after rumors of Rubina's father possibly selling her so that he could support his family and after hearing that both her and Azhar's house had been destroyed, director Danny Boyle flew to India to try and straighten everything out. Danny set up a trust fund last year to award money to both Rubina and Azhar, but for some reason they haven't been receiving any.

It's about time someone heads over there to figure all of this stuff out. We've heard all about how the stars were supposed to have a better life, meanwhile they were seeming to get worse with no one doing anything about it. Props to Danny for putting his foot down and trying to figure all this shizz out.

More Slumdog Millionaire drama!!

There's more insane drama coming from the story of Slumdog Millionaire star Rubina Ali's father attempting to sell her for $400,000. We'll take this step-by-step. First off, almost immediately after the story first came to light, Rubina's father Rafiq Qureshi came out and denied that he would ever try to sell his daughter. He said that he met up with the "fake sheik" that Britain's News of the World sent out, thinking that they were discussing another movie role for his daughter, not a price to sell her for. Rubina backed up her father and said they met with someone about a job, but that he didn't speak their native language so there was confusion.

While that was going on, Rubina's biological mother ended up running into her stepmother and started beating the holy hell out of her in the middle of a village. Rubina's mother grabbed the stepmother by the scruff of the neck and repeatedly slapped her while calling her a "treacherous bitch" and screaming at her to "give me my daughter back!"

This whole thing is a super mess. Rafiq keeps saying that he was promised that he and his family would get money and flats for Rubina working in the movie, but they've received nothing yet. I don't want to say that he'd never try to sell his daughter, because that stuff DOES happen out there, but I have a feeling it really might just be a misunderstanding.

"Slumdog Millionaire" star Rubina Ali is for sale

No, you didn't read that header wrong. Nine-year-old Rubina Ali, who played Latika in the Oscar-dominating Slumdog Millionaire, is up for sale by her father, Rafiq Qureshi. Rafiq is asking around $400,000 for her, mainly because his family is still living in the slums and they're frustrating they haven't really seen any benefits to the success of the movie. Rafiq is hoping a rich family will want to adopt Rubina, but will offer up some compensation, too. Rubina's uncle says that "she's not just a normal child, she's an Oscar child!"

You gotta think it's pretty bad when you're trying to just straight up cash in on your daughter's fame. At the same time, you also have to think he's a huge douchebag if he's willing to just straight up sell his daughter.
