This is such a heartwarming story that I couldn't help but throw it up. Yesterday morning, two dogs ended up on the Major Deegan Expressway during rush hour traffic. One of the dogs, a yellow lab chow-mix, ended up being hit by a car and was laying motionless in the middle of the highway. That's when the other dog, a German Shepherd-mix, sprang into action and totally held up traffic, barking at all of the cars while standing above the other dog. When police arrived on scene, the German Shepherd barked at them to keep them away from the hurt dog. Eventually, the cops were able to get to the pup that was hurt and brought her to an animal hospital, then spent another 45 minutes trying to get the German Shep into the car. They finally just escorted it off an exit ramp, where it actually went home. It turns out the dogs weren't strays, they were owned by someone who lives near the highway and just escaped. On top of that, the dog that got hurt was actually the German Shep's mother. The yellow lab only had a broken leg and is okay.
I heard about this last night while I was half-asleep in bed, and as much of a wiseass as I am, this was just too cute not to post. Check out the WABC report news report (they had the info about the dogs wrong, so just ignore it), and then check the raw video all below.
