Trent Reznor has been totally badass for most of his life for being the frontman for Nine Inch Nails, but now he's badass for a totally different reason. One of NIN's biggest fans, Eric De La Cruz, is suffering from a heart disease called severe dilated cardiomyopathy, which could kill him if he doesn't get a heart transplant soon. Medicaid won't pay for him to get it and private insurance won't cover it because of his preexisting condition. He tried to get Federal Medicare, who would cover it, but they denied his request, too. So that left Eric with having to pay for the transplant himself.
This is where Trent comes in. He somehow came across Eric's sister's Tweets about his situation, and decided to set up a little charity deal to raise money for it. If fans donated $300, they'd get access to soundcheck and a quick meeting with the band, $1,000 donations got dinner and backstage passes with the band, and $1,200 gave fans 2 tickets and VIP access. The response was so huge that Trent actually ran out of room for VIPs, so he's auctioning off a signed Tony Hawk skateboard and a signed CD of NIN's rarest release Still. He said that so far, he's raised $858,628.30.
That's AWESOME all around. Awesome that fans are contributing that much to help Eric out, and even more awesome that Trent is taking the time to help one of his fans like that. That's what being a celeb is all about -- not like Perez Hilton who throws a bitch fit when he gets answers he doesn't like hearing to questions he asks.
