Susan Boyle was a guest via satellite on Oprah yesterday, coincidentally while Simon Cowell was an in-studio guest. During the chat, Susan talked about how she's living a dream right now, and how singing helped her cope with the loss of her mother.
Pretty awesome to be recognized in the street and asked for autographs. I'm getting quite a few fan letters and cards from around the globe. I'm loving every second of it. It takes a bit of time to take in because it happened so quickly. I'm really enjoying every second of it. It's like a dream come true. My mom died two years ago. After that there was a wee period where I didn't sing. You try and keep going through that pain and that's what I try to do with my singing. I am very slowly getting over it. One of the reasons I applied to the TV show was to see if I could perform in front of an audience.
Some people gain fame and their head and ego both swell up to dimensions unknown and they turn into total uber-douches. Then there's the Susan Boyle's of the world who are still down-to-earth and act like they did before anyone else other than family knew they existed. And that, my friends, is cool.
