There's more insane drama coming from the story of Slumdog Millionaire star Rubina Ali's father attempting to sell her for $400,000. We'll take this step-by-step. First off, almost immediately after the story first came to light, Rubina's father Rafiq Qureshi came out and denied that he would ever try to sell his daughter. He said that he met up with the "fake sheik" that Britain's News of the World sent out, thinking that they were discussing another movie role for his daughter, not a price to sell her for. Rubina backed up her father and said they met with someone about a job, but that he didn't speak their native language so there was confusion.
While that was going on, Rubina's biological mother ended up running into her stepmother and started beating the holy hell out of her in the middle of a village. Rubina's mother grabbed the stepmother by the scruff of the neck and repeatedly slapped her while calling her a "treacherous bitch" and screaming at her to "give me my daughter back!"
This whole thing is a super mess. Rafiq keeps saying that he was promised that he and his family would get money and flats for Rubina working in the movie, but they've received nothing yet. I don't want to say that he'd never try to sell his daughter, because that stuff DOES happen out there, but I have a feeling it really might just be a misunderstanding.
